The title of the chosen film: ‘Safety Last-Harold Lloyd’

Brief Explanation:

A man is attempting to enter a building which is being blocked off from the public by a police officer. Whilst his friend distracts the officer the other man climbs the building to enter the building through one of the windows. In going forward with this plan he completely ignores the risk of his own safety thus giving relevance to the title, ‘Safety Last’.

The Section of the film to work on:

I intend to begin work on the clip from 0:24 to 2:26. This will make the duration of the video which I will work on at 2 minutes and 2 seconds. Within that time there a plenty of opportunities to test my creativity with sound creation and Foley work.

What sounds are missing:

Impact of feet on concrete.

Feet scraping against concrete surface.slide2

Crowds of people clapping.

Heavy pole object impacting against solid object.slide4

Feet scraping against ground.

Feet hitting ground.slide6

Buses and cars, by the motorway near college, passing by.

Sounds to record:

Many of the sounds required for this feature will be largely simplistic such as footsteps which only require consideration as to what terrain they are recorded on and how this will affect the volume and quality of them. There are also some sounds which may require more consideration than others, some such as the city ambiance and traffic which is above.

Although it is simply a matter of venturing outside of college to record the moving traffic nearby I also have to consider the time period of this feature; There would not be as much noise caused by the on-going traffic as there is now. There are different types of cars with different volumes of sound and the workings of the engine thus causing a little more of a challenge for the Foley work.

Another challenge for the Foley work would probably be the climbing of the wall; Of course, upon first glance, you would simply expect it to be a matter of finding the closest wall or pavement slab and using abrasive materials to drag along it causing a variety of sounds. However, I believe this may call for a more imaginative approach and so I may result to physically using feet against the wall. This is only one method, however, and I may choose differently closer to the time but, either way, imaginative methods are sometimes better than simply choosing which method is easier and less time-consuming.
